Philip Marnick is the General Director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), appointed in January 2022 by the Board. Before joining the TRA, he served as Group Director of Spectrum at Ofcom in the UK. Over the past three decades, Philip has held senior roles in technology, operations, and strategy at both startups and major corporations, including UK Broadband, O2, Orange, BT, J-Phone (now Softbank Mobile), Extreme Mobile, and SpinVox (now Nuance). He has played a key part in shaping every mobile generation, from analog through 5G.
His contributions include supporting some of the first mobile networks to adopt new technologies and standards, including camera phones, photo messaging, mobile internet, and hosted voice services. Throughout his career, he has focused on bridging technology, policy, and consumer needs to enable cutting-edge solutions. His extensive background positions him to guide the TRA in fostering innovation and driving the future of telecommunications.
